Ian has been involved in sports administration for over 40 years. His principle sport is cycling where he held numerous national positions culminating as President of the British Cycling Federation, which he held from 1985 to 1995.
Ian was Vice President of the International Federation the Union Cycliste International from 1994 to 1997and prior to that served on its executive board for 8 years.
Ian has been present, either as a delegate or official, at Olympic Games in Moscow, Los Angeles, Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney and Athens and was a member of the British Olympic Association Board and Executive Committee from 1976 to 1997.
Ian was vice Chairman of the CGCE from 1994 to 1998 being elected as its Chairman in 1998. He was re-elected to this position in 2003 for a further four year term which came to an end in 2007 with a maximum of two terms being served. Ian is now a Vice President of Commonwealth Games England and still serves on its management committee.
Ian is also the European Regional President at the Commonwealth Games Federation and represents the ten European nations at the CGF Executive Board. Ian has attended Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh (1970 & 1986), Auckland (1990), Kuala Lumpur (1998), Manchester (2002) and Melbourne (2006). The 2010 games are to be held in Delhi, India.
More at home, Ian was appointed as The Sheriff of Lincoln in 1990/1991 and is the current President and Treasurer of the Lincoln Shrievalty Association. Ian also organises the prestigious Lincoln Grand Prix Cycle Race, which in 2009 celebrates its 54th year.
Ian was awarded the OBE for services to sport in 1994. |
