Over 3400 children and adults took part in sport and physical activity at the Lincolnshire Show, thanks to the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership Sports Zone.
The Sports Zone, which features at the Lincolnshire Show every year, offers taster sessions in a variety of sports, fun competitions and opportunities for everyone to take part in sport and physical activities they may not have tried before.
Activities available included Cricket, Golf, Table-Tennis, Canoeing, Hockey, Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, New Age Kurling, Sitting Volleyball, Dance, Tai Chi, Yoga and Nordic Walking. Lincoln and Great Britain Sitting Volleyball athletes Andrew Skinner and Keith Hill attended the show and held three sessions over the two days to promote their sport.
Everyone was encouraged to take part in the activities, with 3,419 people participating in total; 3,215 of which were children.
Jo Brown from Lincoln attended the Show with her daughter. She was delighted with the amount of sport on offer at the Sports Zone:
“We came to the Sports Zone last year, and my daughter Amiee enjoyed it so much that we came back this year. This year there’s a lot more activities on offer and the best thing about it is that she can have a go at everything. The wheelchair basketball was great – all of the children (and some adults!) enjoyed it a lot.”
This year, the Sports Zone also received the Inspire Mark from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
Lord Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games said:
“The Sports Zone is encouraging people of all ages to fulfil their potential. I am proud that with the help of partners such as Lincolnshire Sports Partnership we are delivering on our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in sport."
