What are the aims of a CSN?
• Increase numbers of people taking part in sport and
active recreation by 1% year on year
• Widen access to opportunities for sport and active
recreation
• Bring together and align partner’s existing
priorities and targets into one inclusive local action plan
for sport and active recreation within the CSN area
Who is responsible for a CSN?
A CSN is the responsibility of everyone who is associated
with developing or delivering sport within the local community,
whether paid or unpaid.
A CSN is spilt into two distinct parts, a management group,
and an actions group.
Management Groups
Management groups include representatives from local organisations
such as Age Concern, Youth Services, Police Service, and Private
businesses. These organisations provide support and knowledge
to clubs and other organisations that want to get more people
involved in sport and physical activity.
Action Groups
Next comes the action groups; these groups generally form
around leisure centre user groups, market towns or sports
associations. Action groups provide information on what it
is that local communities need to develop sport and physical
activity.
How does a CSN attract funding?
Once the CSN has an established Action Plan and can identify
its main priorities to achieve sustainable and increased participation,
it can apply to Sport England for the Community Investment
Fund.
