The 2007 Lincolnshire Sports Awards took place on
Sunday 18th November at the Bentley Hotel, Lincoln.
Sports Volunteers, Coaches, Clubs, and Competitors
all joined together at the glitzy ceremony to celebrate
Lincolnshire’s Sporting Success. Over 200 guests
piled into the hotel to reward the County’s talent.
Swimmer Lizzie Simmonds capped off a memorable year
by being crowned Lincolnshire Sports Personality 2007.
Earlier this year Lizzie won the 2007 ASA National Championships
in 100m and 200m backstroke and is currently seeded
first in Great Britain for all 6 long course and short
course backstroke disciplines.
At just 16 this young lady won 4 gold medals and 2
silvers at the European Junior Championships. The last
British person to win 3 individual gold’s was
Paul Palmer in 1991.
Kick boxer Shawn (Boom Boom) Burton is also celebrating
after being named Sportsman 2007. Shawn is the WAKO
Pro British Champion, the Global Kickboxing British
Champion, and the WKA Pro British Champion.
As well as helping to coach all fighters at the kickboxing
club, Shawn initiated the ladies kickboxing classes,
and has also achieved the International EFK European
Title.
