The Lincolnshire Sports Partnership has teamed up
with Sport England, Race Equality Council, Cerebral
Palsy Group and the English Federation of Disability
Sport to launch the Lincolnshire Federation of Equality
Sport (LFES) on January 31st.
The move forms part of a national drive to encourage
more people with limiting disabilities to get involved
in sport.
The Active People Survey released in October identifies
that only 8% of people with limiting disabilities in
Lincolnshire participate in sport or physical activity
for 30mins 3 x a week, this is compared to 22% of able
bodied. Website
Previously known as the Lincolnshire Federation of
Disability Sport, the milestone event represents a much
welcomed change in focus from disability to equality
for all.
January 31st brings together over 300 passionate people
from across Lincolnshire to pledge County wide support
for improved equality in sport, be it financial or practical.
Local Members of Parliaments, District Councils, Voluntary
Organisations, Schools, Primary Care Trust’s,
National Governing Bodies & Sports Clubs from across
the County will join together for the very first time
united in a common goal.
Sarah Teal, Chairperson of LFES commented:
"LFES provides a united voice for unrepresented
groups living in Lincolnshire. Membership of LFES is
open to all Lincolnshire inhabitants regardless of race,
culture, religion, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation,
ethnicity or social status.”
St George’s College of Technology in Sleaford
plays host to the evening form 6pm-8:30pm January 31st.
Invited guests will be actively encouraged to pledge
their support in what ever means they can, as well as
inform the LFES of any help they may need.
