Sign up for Sports Funding Fair 17th July 2008

We are delighted to announce a unique Sports Funding Fair being supported by Lincolnshire County Council, Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and SportingLINK.

The event will be held on Tuesday October 21st 2008 at the superb Market Rasen Racecourse, in the heart of Lincolnshire, and will give Amateur Sports Clubs, Schools and Athletes and all those involved in grass roots sport the opportunity to meet prospective funding partners face to face.

Paul Maylard-Mason, Managing Director of SportingLINK, said ‘This unique event will give anyone looking to access funding for grass roots sport the chance to talk to a significant number of key grant-making and commercial bodies involved in supporting community projects.’

The event, which will run from 10am until 1pm and 2pm to 6pm, will be free for all interested parties nationwide, although only a limited number of tickets will be available because of the anticipated level of demand, which can be booked by registering via www.sportinglink.net.

Wendy Hart, Principal Officer, RACoL (Regeneration Across Communities of Lincolnshire) who works for Lincolnshire County Council added ‘We’ve had great successes in the past across Lincolnshire with Funding Fairs and look forward to making this event equally useful and a very proactive day. Access to recreation is a key part of the Lincolnshire County Council strategy and we are proud to be at the forefront of such an initiative.’

"From the point of view of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership this event will be crucial in showing that local agencies can join up their thinking and their resources to help local people. The same structures exist all across the country in 49 County Sports Partnerships and this is an example of all relevant providers coming together to make things happen. I hope others will take note and start to do the same in their own county areas." Stephen De Wint, Chief Executive, Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.

The event in October has already seen Awards for All, Children In Need and Sport Relief amongst others sign up to exhibit, and updates on exhibitors will be available regularly on www.sportinglink.net

Olympic Mascot Named 7th July 2008
The newest edition to Team GB’s Olympic squad has finally been given a name. The official Team GB mascot has been given the name PRIDE and will accompany the Olympic athletes on their way to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in search of Olympic glory this summer.

Team GB fans were given the opportunity to name the official mascot after the British Olympic Association (BOA) ran a competition on kids TV Channel, Nickelodeon. After sifting through over 3,500 entries the BOA decided on Pride as the winning name.

Nine year old, Lilly Sykes from Lincolnshire gave the best reason for calling the lion Pride (below) and now wins the trip of a lifetime to the Olympic Games in Beijing.

‘A family of lions is called a pride and it reflects how proud we should be of our country and all our Team GB athletes as they compete with determination and courage at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games this summer.’

As an official member of Team GB the mascot will no doubt be popping up everywhere in China from the athlete’s accommodation to the sailing arena in Qingdao and equestrian venues in Hong Kong. In addition each athlete will be given their very own 15” Pride as a memento of their selection for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games team.
