What is Triathlon?

Triathlon is an exciting multi-discipline sport that involves a continuous race over various distances in the three disciplines of swimming, running, & cycling. To participate the basic requirements are that you are able to swim, ride a bike, and run.

An endurance event, the three distances of swimming, running, & cycling are placed back to back in immediate sequence. Competitors race against the clock which starts as they enter the swim, & stops as soon as they cross the finish line after the run. For this reason triathlon is often reported as having a fourth disciplines known as the transition. The transitions are where competitors change from swimming to cycling & from cycling to running.

As triathletes have to train for three different disciplines, triathlon encourages whole body muscular development, and produces high levels of fitness. Triathlon events also provide a rare opportunity to race side by side with athletes of all abilities, with the benefit of seeing results which show you’re placing against competitors of your own age and sex.
