Win Silver in The Lord’s Taverners
National Junior League Finals
Held at the Jesse Boot Stadium in Nottingham on Saturday
26th April. 2008
The top 4 teams from the North and South junior leagues
took part in the 'Finals' weekend. To get this far was
a fantastic achievement as the Jaguars came 2nd in the
North Divsion in 2007/2008 season winning 6 games against
teams from Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds and only loosing
2 games against Northwich.
All of the Jaguars team of 12 played in the Quarter
Final at 11.15am against Aspire Force from London -
it was a superb victory with almost all of the team
getting on the scoresheet.
The semi-final against Bury Bombers was a thrilling
match after swapping basket for basket the Jaguars won
with 10 seconds to go a real nail-biting encounter with
the team and supporters shattered!
The Jaguars played the Final against a superb team
from Northwich and despite some great play they were
not able to breakdown a tight defense.
A truly wonderful day and everyone went home so very
proud of the Silver medal presented by The Lord Taverners,
Chairman of the GBWBA and members of the GB Mens Wheelchair
Basketball Team.
Players come from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire
and with over 50% coming from Lincolnshire.
The Jaguars are currently the biggest junior squad
in the Country and things look good for next season
with Northwich the winning team that beat us in the
final losing four of their starting five.
All players played as a team and gave 100% what more
can a coach want. Jags captain Richard Sargent 15yrs
from Lincoln has been selected to play for the GB u23
squad at the end of the months. Here's hoping some of
the players reach the 2012 paralympics!!!
If you'd like to play Wheelchair Basketball we'd love
to see you - we train and play at the Magnus Sports
Centre Newark and have a satellite club in Lincoln.
