‘Our pupils now know that having a disability does not mean a life without sport.’
The project involves 170 manual sports wheelchairs, 10 power chairs and 18 trailers to transport the equipment around the county. The primary goal of the project is to increase participation in physical activity for those with a physical impairment, with related health and developmental benefits, using wheelchair sports as the medium for delivery. The programme will be delivered in schools and will raise awareness of disabilities and disability sport. The project is fully inclusive, allowing disabled and able bodied participants to take part in the same sports session.
The Wheelchair Sports Programme is currently being funded by The Health and Wellbeing Fund (NHS Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire County Council), supported by Lincolnshire Co-Operative and delivered in the following educational settings:
